Few places shape a creative perspective quite like Cornwall. For Uneeka, the family-run brand known for its handcrafted furniture, distinctive homewares and tailored design services, the county’s rugged coastline, shifting light and untamed landscape have long been a source of inspiration. “It really does shape how we see things every day. It’s not something we consciously ‘design from’ in a forced way, but more something that naturally filters into everything we do,” they tell me.
There’s a real honesty to the land here. It’s rugged, a bit wild and constantly changing, which has influenced Uneeka to create spaces that don’t feel too polished or rigid. “We’re drawn to things that feel natural, relaxed and a little imperfect, in a way that makes them feel more human and lived-in.”
At the same time, there’s a distinct Uneeka look that comes through in bold accents of colour, one-of-a-kind finds and bespoke pieces created to suit individual spaces. It’s these unexpected pops and characterful objects that bring warmth and personality to a home.
Cornwall offers a colour palette without having to look too far. There are earthy cliff tones of warm browns, rusty oranges and stone greys, alongside flashes of pink sea thrift, soft yellow gorse, deep greens and, of course, the sea and sky shifting between deep blue, soft grey and silver light. Uneeka brings this into interiors through layers and texture rather than anything too literal, using natural linens, worn woods, woven materials and ceramics with slightly uneven glazes. It’s these details that make their designs feel tactile and authentic.
“For us, it all comes down to feeling rather than geography,” they add. “We focus on sourcing from UK artisans, as well as further afield from places like India and Indonesia. What ties everything together is a shared sense of craft, care and authenticity, and we make every effort to source our pieces ethically. We’re always drawn to things that feel considered, handmade and full of character.”
